Hi, I’m Whitney

I’m a licensed marriage and family therapist with degrees from Thomas Jefferson University and the University of Pennsylvania.

I trained in marriage and family therapy because I’ve always been interested in the ways that our relationships, especially our early ones, shape the way we move through the world. However, in my 10+ years of practice, I was surprised to discover how often my clients’ concerns – anxiety, relationship issues, trauma, family conflict – all boiled down to the same basic question: how do I stay connected with others while staying true to myself? I’ve found that this is one of those enduring, human questions with no simple solution (I wish!), but in my experience, most people aren’t stuck because they lack the answer. They’re stuck because they don’t have labels for their experience, their old survival strategies aren’t working, and no one really modeled how to be a compassionate, healthy adult who can deal with their own emotions. So that’s where we start in our work together: building the awareness, language and tools that you never got so that you can stop running away from yourself and become the grown up you always thought you’d be.

Of course, understanding why you’re stuck is only one piece of it. Therapy with me isn't just talking about your problems, it's actually experiencing something different. A lot of my clients are smart people who are very good at analyzing their feelings without actually feeling them. Part of our work together is changing that – learning to ride the wave of an emotion all the way through, which counterintuitively leads to relief and a better connection with yourself. You'll also leave with concrete tools, not just more things to think about.

I am licensed in Rhode Island and Massachusetts and provide therapy online in both states. I work with all adults and especially welcome queer, trans, non monogamous and neurodivergent folks who are looking for a therapist who gets it. I offer free consultations so that we can chat and see if I might be a good fit for you. If you’re curious about working together, please get in touch. I’d love to hear from you.
